LutKit · Terms of use
The terms,
in plain words.
LutKit is a one-person app. These terms are short because there is not much to say: you buy a licence from Apple, the app runs on your device, and your footage never leaves it.
-
Your licence comes from Apple
LutKit is licensed to you, not sold, under Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement, the standard EULA that covers every app bought through the App Store. Everything below sits on top of that agreement and describes how LutKit in particular works. Where the two ever disagree, Apple's agreement wins.
Your agreement is with hloo, the publisher of LutKit. Apple is not a party to it, and Apple is not responsible for the app or its content, but Apple may enforce these terms as a third-party beneficiary. That is what the standard EULA says, and what App Store distribution requires.
-
What you get for nothing
LutKit is free to download, and the editor is not a demo. On the free tier you can import your own .cube LUTs, grade Apple Log and Apple Log 2 footage, set the intensity on the ruler, use every Lightroom-style adjustment, crop and level, and export.
- Exports are HEVC at full native resolution.
- There is no watermark, at any tier, ever.
- There is no time limit and no trial clock on the free tier.
- You can preview every look in the app on your own clip, including looks you have not bought.
-
What you pay for
Three things are paid, and only three:
- LutKit Pro, as a subscription or as a one-time lifetime purchase. It unlocks batch export, ProRes 422 export, the film grain tool, and every look: the ones that exist now and the ones added later, for as long as Pro is active.
- Looks, bought one at a time. Each is a one-time purchase and it stays yours, with no subscription and no expiry.
Prices are set per country and are shown to you in the App Store, in your own currency, before you confirm anything. They are not listed on this page, because the number would be wrong for most people reading it.
-
How the subscription works
- The LutKit Pro subscription runs for one year and renews automatically at the end of each year until you cancel.
- New subscribers get a free introductory period before the first charge. It is offered once, to people who have not subscribed before.
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
- The renewal is charged within 24 hours of the end of the current year, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before that.
- You cancel and manage the subscription in your Apple Account settings, not in LutKit. LutKit has a Manage subscription row that takes you straight there.
- If you buy the subscription while a free introductory period is still running, the unused part of it is forfeited. That is Apple's rule for all apps, not ours.
- Cancelling stops future charges. It does not refund the year you are in.
When a subscription lapses, nothing you made is touched. Your clips, your imported LUTs, your presets and your exports all stay exactly as they are. The Pro tools stop, and the looks you never bought outright stop being available for export.
-
Buying, restoring and refunds
Apple takes the payment, holds the receipt and handles the refunds. LutKit never sees your card, and hloo cannot issue a refund directly. To ask for one, use reportaproblem.apple.com.
If you reinstall, change device or sign in somewhere new, Restore purchases in LutKit's settings brings back everything you have bought. All three products have Family Sharing turned on, so a purchase covers your family group.
-
Your footage and your own LUTs
Your clips and the .cube files you import are yours. Grading a clip in LutKit gives hloo no rights over it and no copy of it. Nothing you open is uploaded anywhere. See the privacy page for how little the app collects: nothing.
You are responsible for having the right to use the LUTs you import. Plenty of LUT packs sold elsewhere carry their own licence; LutKit cannot know what yours says, and importing a file into the app does not change what its licence allows.
-
What you may do with LutKit's own looks
The looks that ship with LutKit, and the looks you have bought, are licensed to you for use in your own work: personal, client or commercial, on as many projects as you like, with no credit required and no extra fee.
What you may not do is pass the look files themselves on: no redistributing, reselling, repackaging or publishing the LUTs as a pack of your own, whether or not you charge for it. Graded footage is yours. The grading data is licensed.
-
What LutKit does not promise
LutKit is provided as it is. Beyond the rights the law where you live gives you (and in some countries that is quite a lot, none of which this page takes away), there is no warranty that the app will suit a particular job, run without fault, or produce any specific result.
Colour is a moving target: Apple changes its video frameworks, log formats and colour pipelines between releases, and a future version of iOS or macOS can change what an export looks like. Keep your originals. LutKit never modifies the clip you imported, which is the other half of that advice.
-
If these terms change
They will, occasionally: a new product, a new tool, a clearer sentence. The date at the top of this page says when it last happened, and the current version is always the one here. Carrying on using LutKit after a change means the new terms apply. A change that takes something away from a purchase you have already made will not be applied to that purchase.
